Harriet was a daughter of Joel Guild, who was a member of the original Dexter colony that settled Ionia in 1833. She was 20 years old at that time, being the eldest child of the family. The Guilds made only a brief stay at Ionia, going to Grand Rapids, where deceased has long been honored as the city’s oldest pioneer, and loved for her excellent traits of character.
