Daily Standard - Thursday, Sept. 28, 1905

Joseph Burton of Caledonia was drowned while in bathing at Lake Odessa on 
Wednesday. He was 34 years old, unmarried, and employed on a lake steamer. He 
was home on a visit, and had gone to attend the fair at Lake Odessa for the 
day. He went out alone in a boat, and jumped in the water when only a short 
distance from shore. He disappeared before assistance could reach him, and it 
is supposed he was taken with cramps.
