Burton age 87 of Saranac, Michigan passed away at her home May 23, 2022. She was born on March 3, 1935 in the old Ionia Hospital, the daughter of Corwin and Alma (Berndt) Cahoon. Jean lived all her life in Keene Township on Potters Road. She attended Potters corner School through eighth grade and then went on to graduate from Saranac High School in 1953. Jean married Larry Burton on September 3, 1960 at LeValley Church. She worked in auto sales at her uncle's garage from 1953 until August of 1982. After that, Jean started working at Saranac Community Schools in the library and in the lunch room as an aid. Later, she moved to the Harker Middle school Library, where she retired in 1995. Jean was also Keene Township clerk for many, many years starting in 1973 a lifetime member of o the Order of the Eastern Star, a lifetime member of the Boston Historical Society and very active in her community. Surviving is her daughter Lyn Burton (Matt Shanahan) of Douglas, many cousins and close friends. She as preceded in death by her parents and beloved husband Larry. Jean, Larry and Lyn camped all over Michigan spending a good portion of their summers in Manistee. Often camping trips or neighborhood outings included not only family, but close friends as well. Whether snowmobiling in the fields, stopping to build a fire and roasting hotdogs, walking the Mackinac Bridge on labor day, hitting a casino here and there, steam boating down the Mississippi River or cruising n a ship headed to Alaska, Jean was game for anything. She loved life. She loved family. She cherished her friends. She will be greatly missed. As Jean mentioned to Larry,"It has been some dance. We have had some ups and downs, but more ups. Thanks for all the years and good times."Truly one of a kind. God speed Jean Burton. The world was a better place because you were in it and we were all very lucky to have you in our lives. Funeral services were held at Lake funeral Home in Saranac on Friday, May 27th 1:00 p.m. Interment Pinckney cemetery. Visitation was 2 hours prior to the service, from 11 until 1.
