Ionia Sentinel, 3 Apr 1990

Winthrop A. Bushong, 70, of 871 Riverside Drive, Portland, died April 1 at a 
Lansing hospital.  He was born Oct. 15, 1919 in Pewamo, the son of Thomas and 
Ada May (Stiles) Bushong.

Bushong owned and operated a gas station in Pewamo for many years.  He was a 
veteran of World War II and a member of the Portland VFW Post 4090.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes; three sons, Robert of Douglas, Wyo., John of 
Grand Ledge and Richard of Portland; two daughters, Janet Thelen of Portland 
and Ann Miller of Portland; nine grandchildren; one brother, William Bushong of 
Portland; and two sisters, Virginia Werner of Portland and Ann Fahey of 
Hubbardston.

Rosary services will be held Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the Neller Funeral Home in 
Portland.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Portland St. 
Patrick’s Church.  The Rev. Jake Gensterblum will officiate.  Pall bearers will 
be Scott and Chad Miller, Larry and Brian Thelen and Tom and Bruce Werner.  
Burial will be in the Portland Cemetery.
