He was born in Saranac, April 28, 1943 the son of Thayne and Arwilda Kauffman Butcher. He was a foreman at Universal Metals in Saranac. He umpired youth baseball in Saranac and was involved in golfing and bowling leagues. He married Gloria Jean Baker in Saranac in 1969. Surviving are his wife; his mother Arwilda Butcher of Saranac; three sisters, Mrs. Jack (Carol) Chipman of Saranac, Mrs. Larry (Sharon) Prosser of Greenville, and Mrs. Steve (Joy) Klink of Eaton Rapids; one brother, Roger, preceded him in death in 1973. Services will be held Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the Lake Funeral Home in Saranac, with the Rev. Allen Thompson officiating. The family will be at the funeral home Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. A memorial has been established for the Saranac Athletic Department.
