Dutchess Co., N.Y. He came to Michigan in infancy and thus was called upon to pass through the experiences and hardships of pioneer life in the unbroken forest. His father and one of his brothers were Baptist preachers. His father died soon after coming to Michigan, leaving the family to the mother’s care. He was married Oct. 6th, 1851, to Miss Lidia Alger, who survives him and mourns his loss today. He was the father of seven children, three he buried at Smyrna, and four are living. A brother living at Pontiac, over 80 years of age, and a sister living at Detroit, younger than himself. Since childhood he has lived within a few miles of Otisco. He became a Christian in this younger years, and united with the Baptist church. In the midst of the many varied experiences of a long life, he always maintained his faith in God. He was a member of the Belding Baptist church at the time of his death, and his departure removes one of the oldest members. He died triumphing in the grace of God. Services conducted by Rev. H.N.
