Bennett lib@dogsbark.com April 17, 2010, 11:27 pm Saranac Advertiser BUTTON, ALPHONSO: THE ADVERTISER, Saranac, MI, July 10, 1913, front page: "FOUND DEAD - A. Button, who had been living alone in the back room of the Farrington Building, was found dead Friday morning by Dr. Hay. He had been overcome by the heat. He was laying on the bed with his clothes on and by all appearances he had died Thursday night. Thursday noon Mr. Button was at Lee Otis' barber shop and had his hair cut and a shave. When he got out of the chair he seemed to be dizzy and Mr. Otis helped him across the street to his rooms, when he got there he said he felt all right again. Postmaster Hunter says that he was at the post office for his mail at 5 o'clock. This is the last any one saw him alive. He did his own cooking in the small rooms on the west side of the building and without doubt he was overcome by the excessive heat of the day. The body was removed to the Densmore undertaking rooms and the burial was from there on Saturday. The services being conducted by Reverend D. C. Reihl. Mr. Button moved back here from Grand Rapids last spring and has been living alone. He had one hand and all but 1 thumb and one finger of the other hand blown off by the explosion of his gun while on duty as a member of the state troops a number of years ago and the state was paying him a pension of $25.00 per month. His grand-daughter, Miss Gladys Button, the only known relative, was notified but as she lives in Los Angeles, she could not come."
