December 14, 1904 JARED BUTTON DEAD One of Best Known Men In Campbell Township. Died, on Friday evening, Dec. 10th, after an illness of only two days, Jared W.Button, for 18 years a resident of Campbell Township and a citizen well and favorably known.Funeral Was held at the Thornapple Church, Campbell,Rev. I.H. Mourer officiating, and the remains laid at rest in Clarksville cemetery the following Tuesday. The death of Mr.Button was a great shock to the relative and friends and has cast a gloom over the entire Community, as he had been enjoying usual good health, at least to all outward appearances. On Thursday he attended an auction sale at Alvin Shepard's at Campbell, and was taken so suddenly ill that for the immediate time death seemed certain. Dr. Kiblinger was hastily called and kind hands moved him at his earnest request, to his home where he seemed to rally from his shock. All was done that it was possible for medical skill and careful nursing to do, but he was past all earthly help and a few minutes before mid- night Friday evening he breather his last. Mr. Button was a strictly honest man careful in his daily life and dealings with his fellowmen. Being a plain practical man, he was highly honored and respected by everyone. Being one among the few that never found time, or, at least never cared to discuss the objectionable qualities of others. Mr.Button was born in Russel, Geauga Co.Ohio, May 29th, 1844. At the out-break of the Civil War he responded to his country's call to arms and joined the 105th Ohio Vol. Inf. being assigned to Co.F. and was transferred to the 171st Ohio National Guard. At the close of the war he returned to his home in Ohio and was married to Miss Emma Corliss in 1865. Death claimed his wife and three children. A short time after the death of his family he came to Michigan making his home with the Hewitt families, August 9, 1886, he was married to Miss Nora Champlin, to whom he proved a devoted husband. The broken-hearted widow, one sister and two brothers and a host of friends and neighbors mourn the loss of a husband, brother and neighbor. Additional Comments: Clarksville Cem.
