Estella was born on Sept. 18, 1916, in Caledonia Township, Alto, Mich., the daughter of Herbert and Mae (Carrigan) Rogers. Estella married Harold M. Buys on Aug. 12, 1939, and moved to Ionia, Mich., in 1952. Estella was very active in the First United Methodist Church, serving as church secretary/treasurer for many years, as well as serving on many other committees. She also served on the Ionia Township board and helped for many years with township elections. She was employed as office secretary for Runciman Milling Co. in Ionia, until 1971, when she and her husband purchased the property and renamed it the Ionia Elevator and Storage. She retired in 1994 when the property was sold. She spent many years watching her beloved Tiger's baseball team, making candy at Christmas, traveling and enjoying her children and grandchildren. Estella is survived by sons, Roger Craig (Pam) Buys of Mt. Pleasant, Mich., and Richard M. (Wanda) Buys of Ionia; five grandchildren, Curtis Buys of Greenville, N.C., Paige Buys Lamm (Alex) of Jacksonville, Fla., Sarah Buys Baidas (Loren) of Milford, Mich., Kirsten Buys Johnson (Daniel) of Ferndale, Mich., and Joseph Buys (Tatiana) of Los Angeles, Calif.; and seven great- grandchildren with another on the way. She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Harold Buys, in May of this year and sister Elizabeth. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service is planned for 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at the First Methodist Church in Ionia, Mich.
