The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Friday, November 20, 1987
Leona E. Byrnes, 84, of Ionia died Thursday at Ionia Manor.  The daughter of 
Frank and Kate Metternick Shindorf, she was born January 8, 1903 in Ionia 
County.  She was married to Maynard Byrnes July 24, 1923.  He died in 1982.  
She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Church.

Surviving are three sons, Gerald of Florida, Robert of Allen Park, and James 
of Lansing; a daughter, Mrs. Al (Rita) Smith of Grand Rapids; 14 
grandchildren, several great grandchildren, a brother, Lawrence Shindorf of 
Long Lake, and a sister, Loretta Henkel of Ann Arbor.  She was preceded in 
death by a sister, Lorene Fitzgerald.

Funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday from SS. Peter and Paul Catholic 
Church.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Miriam Cemetery, Belding.  The rosary 
will be recited at 8 p.m. Friday at the Main Street Chapel, Montgomery-Cook 
Funeral Home.  The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. 
Friday.
