Lake Odessa Wave
   Grandma Bywater, died, Tuesday after an illness of six weeks caused from a heavy
fall, breaking her hip bone.
   Julia Ann Tallman was born Oct. 9, 1820 in Ledger, Cayuga Co., New York.  She was
united in marriage to Thomas Bywater Oct 9, 1836 in same town.  To them were born eight 
children, all but one of them surviving their mother; Abel of Lake Odessa, Mrs. Lucy 
Tissue of Fruitport, Mich., Mrs. Libby Butler of Auburn, N. Y., John of Roscommon, 
William of Woodbury, Thadeus of Sherman City, Mrs. Emma Penton of Britt, Iowa and 
Mrs. Laura Parmalee, deceased.  She with her husband and family were among the early
pioneers of Michigan, moving to Lyons Ionia Co., in October 1854 and then many years 
later to West Odessa where they resided until the death of her husband Oct. 8, 1895 
at the age of 82 years;  since then she has made her home with her son Wm.
  She was converted at an early age and joined the Methodist church of Ledger, N.
Y., in 1852 and then later moving to Michigan she joined the United Brethren church 
at West Odessa and remained a devoted Christian to the cause she loved, just waiting 
for the call of her Master.  Her family Bible given her in 1849 is left as a 
living memento of mother.  She was a woman of sturdy pioneer character, always
thoughtful of doing her best for those around her, until her failing health which began 
five years ago from a stroke of apoplexy.  She departed this life Feb. 8, 1910 at age of 
89 yrs. 3 sos. 29 days being the last surviving member of her father's family of 
eight children.
