Wave, Thurs. June 19, 1947 Carl Bywater Died In Lansing Friday Carl D. Bywater, 54, well-known Portland druggist, died in St. Lawrence hospital in Lansing, Friday following a long period of failing health from liver trouble. He was a member of the Democratic state central committee and chairman of the Ionia County Democratic committee. He also was a member of the F. & A.M., R.A.M., and the Odd Fellows lodges at Portland, was president of the Portland Chamber of Commerce and was the first president of the Lions Club there. Mr. Bywater graduated from the Lake Odessa schools in 1910, was employed in the Nye Drug store here and attended Ferris Institute in Big Rapids, going to Portland in 1916, where he purchased the C.F. Powers drug store which he operated until his death. He is survived by his widow, the former Marjorie Wilhelm of Portland, a daughter, Marilyn, at home and three sisters, Ms. Cora Hay in Grand Rapids, Miss Florence Bywater in Detroit, and Mrs. Addie Ryerson at Portland.
