MRS.BYWATER GONE TO REST
Wife of Abel Bywater Was Another of Community's Pioneers.

LIVED HERE 40 YEARS
Funeral Was Held From ouse Tuesday Forenoon. Rev. Bonebrake Preached the Sermon.

As winter progresses, the list of local pioneers answering the final summons 
continues to grow. After a long illness, Mrs. Abel Bywater, long associated with 
the growth of the town and community, died at her home here Sunday. The funeral 
was held Tuesday forenoon from the house, Rev. Bonebrake of the United Brethren 
church officiating. The remains were interred in Lakeside Cemetery. 

It is interesting to note that Mr. and Mrs.Bywater have lived in this vicinity 
for 40 years. At the time they owned, as a farm, the land upon which the village 
now stands, having purchased it from the Chapman estate. They have long been 
stalwart residents of the community, whose christian lives have commanded both 
respect and admiration. Mrs.Bywater was 71 years old at the time of her death. 
She was born in Ottawa county to the name of Amanda Kinney, and was married to 
Mr.Bywater in 1845. She has been very prominent here, serving as president of 
the Ladies Aid Society for a number of years, as a member of the W.R.C. and in 
other ways. She is survived by her husband and four children, Mrs.Wm.H Shepard 
of Lake Odessa, Geo. Bywater of Hastings, Freeman A.Bywater of Grand Rapids and 
Mrs.Frank Smith of Washtenaw.
