May 17, 2012 Alma M. Cahoon, 97, of Saranac passed away at her home May 15, 2012. She was born Feb. 22, 1915 in Millbrook Twp., the daughter of Louis and Ada (White) Berndt. Alma married Corwin Cahoon Dec. 26, 1934. He preceded her in death July 8, 1971. Alma farmed all her life with her husband. She was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Saranac and Belding club and currently Doric Chapter. Alma worked hard all her life and was especially fond of baking, crocheting and crafting. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and always was up for an afternoon drive or spontaneous trip to town. She was an independent, strong willed, compassionate person enjoying life on her terms, by her choice. Alma will be fondly remembered by all and will be missed dearly. She touched many lives in her 97 years and for those we are all blessed. Alma is survived by her daughter, Jean (Larry) Burton of Saranac; granddaughter, Lyn (Ellis) Walden of Bloomindale; nieces, Roxie (Leonard) Kirby of Florida, Sally Berndt of Lansing, Donna (Lloyd) Jenks of Saranac, Shirley (Cliff) Jackson of Saranac and Judy (Doug) VanBennekom of Saranac and families; many great nieces and nephews and special friends, Dr. Rouse, Katie Mendez, Audrey Mason and friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers, Emerson and Clare. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, May 21 at Lake Funeral Home in Saranac. Interment Saranac Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday 4 to 8 p.m. at Lake Funeral Home in Saranac. Anyone wishing may make memorial contributions in Alma's name to Boston Historical Society or Schmid Rouse Edmonson In Home Health Care Family Assist Program.
