She was born in Grand Haven, Dec. 23, 1897, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Minty. She was a graduate of Ionia High School with the class of 1917 and graduated from Cleary Business College in Ypsilanti in 1919. She was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 35 years, retiring in 1956. She is the widow of Dr. Fred P. Calkins. He was a veterinarian. She was a member of the North Presbyterian Church, Lansing and a member of the veterinary medicine auxiliary. She is survived by three step-children, Mrs. Paul VanKeuren, of East Lansing, John Calkins, of Camden, Ark., and Charles Calkins, of Chicago. Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Highland Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Robert Nixon, of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
