Gary Duane Calkins, age 68 of Ionia, passed away Jan. 24, 2015.  He was born
Dec. 9, 1946, in Ionia, the son of Archie and Margaret (Nevins) Calkins.  

Gary married Rosalie Vroman on June 22, 1985.  He served in the U.S. Army during
the Vietnam War; was a member of the VFW and Past Commander of the Ionia
American Legion.  Gary was a firefighter with the Ionia City Fire Dept.  He
loved fishing, camping, and John Wayne.

Gary is survived by his wife, Rosalie Calkins of Ionia; children, Michael
Calkins of Ionia, Lisa Gomez of Muir, and Steven Calkins of Ionia;
step-children, Kimberly Gamez of Ionia and Kevin (Ginny) Rowland of Texas;
sisters, Sue (Russell) Misner of Lyons, Barbara Wright of Ionia and Sara (Mark)
Fosburg of Ionia; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  He was
preceded in death by his parents; brother, Buddy Calkins; and brother-in-law,
Carl Wright.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at LeValley
United Methodist Church in Ionia.  Those wishing may make donations toward the
Belding VFW Memorial Brick.  Arrangements by Lake Funeral Home in Ionia.
