She has been in feeble health for some time, but her condition was not such as to indicate immediate danger. She was around the house yesterday, but suffered greatly from the heat, and was very restless during the night so that Mr. Callow remained up with her. She passed away suddenly, quite likely owing to heat prostration. Her age was 66. She leaves three children: Walter J., A. E. (Ted) and Mrs. D. P. Way. The funeral of Mrs. James Callow, at St. John’s Episcopal church, Wednesday was largely attended by friends, especially by old residents, by whom deceased was cherished as a woman of strong elements of character, worthy of the highest esteem and respect. The sermon was by Rev. Dr. Thomas, and was an appropriate and eloquent discourse. The floral offerings from friends were many and beautiful, including a piece sent from Grand Rapids by the officers and employees in the Purchasing department of the D., G.R.&W.R.R. Co. Mrs. and Mrs. James Callow came to Ionia direct from England twenty-five years ago, where deceased was born April 25, 1831. Their home has been in Ionia ever since, and they have enjoyed to an unusual degree the confidence and respect of a wide circle of friends. Interment was in Highland Park. The bearers were the three sons, W. J., A. E., and Charles, and the son-in-law, D. P. Way.
