He came to this country with his parents and settled in the state of New York in 1839. They removed to Keene, Ionia county, Michigan, in the spring of 1850. William Campbell bought a farm comprising 120 acres adjoining his father’s farm, where he has since resided. He was married to Miss Frances Green in 1860. His wife died about three years ago and since that time he has been in poor health and has never seemed to be able to recover from the loss of his wife, always referring to the same as being irreparable. He has been in the hospital at Alma several times, and while visiting with his friends near Greenville was taken suddenly very ill and at once became an inmate of the Greenville hospital, where, after illness of several weeks, he passed away at 1:30 a.m. May 10, 1918, aged 77 years, 7 months, and 7 days. Mr. Campbell has always been a good citizen of industrious habits, peace loving among his neighbors, kind hearted, accommodating and honest. He leaves one sister, Mrs. Mary Gibson of Belding, and one brother, John D. Campbell, who resides on the old homestead in Keene, to mourn their loss, besides his numerous friends and neighbors. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. H. Ellis of Ashley, were held at the church in Smyrna on Monday afternoon. Interment was in Smyrna cemetery.
