Campbell, wife of H. S. Campbell, died at her home on East Washington street at 3 o’clock last Saturday morning after a painful illness of three weeks. All her near relatives were present at the bedside and although she had suffered severely during her last sickness the last hours were peaceful and the end came without a struggle. She leaves to mourn their loss, her husband, a son, daughter, an aged mother and one brother. The mother, Mrs. D. C. Howes, is so prostrated that she is under the doctor’s care and with a nurse in constant attendance. Mrs. Campbell was 40 years of age and had been a happy wife for 26 years. She was a very prominent member of Victoria Lodge, D of R No. 60, where she will be missed very much, also of Doris Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the W. C. T. U. and of the Baptist church. She seemed to realize that it was her last sickness for she had asked her dear friend, Mrs. A. Traub, to council and advise her daughter Cherie, which request was willingly granted. It was her request that the ritualistic ceremonies of the Daughters of Rebekah be observed at the grave. The funeral was held from the Baptist church, Rev. H. N. Spear officiating preached a most beautiful and impressive sermon. The burial was in River View cemetery. The floral offerings were many, consisting in part of carnations from Mrs. D. Stewart of Flint, a beautiful spray of pink carnations from the Michigan Paint Co., a beautiful spray of scarlet carnations from the young lady friends of Miss Cherie, a magnificent bouquet of American beauty roses from Mulbury Camp, M. W. A., a large bouquet of calla lilies from the W.C.T.U., a spray of pink and white carnations from the young gentlemen friends of Cherie, a bouquet of pink carnations from Mrs. L. W. Loveland of Ionia, bouquet of white carnations from Mrs. A. Traub, damask roses from the Belding High School teachers and students, a pillow of white carnations and ferns from the family, magnificent bouquet of yellow and white roses from the D of R lodge, large spray of pink and white carnations from Mr. Campbell’s partners and their wives, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Tuinistra and Mr. and Mrs. M. Cooley, a very large set piece of pinks, violets, calla lillies and ferns from Silk City Lodge I.O. O. F., a beautiful set star from Doris Chapter O.E.S., spray of roses from Baptist church, a very large spray of white carnations and ferns from the employees of the Ballou Basket Works. A beautiful, blameless life is ended and her spirit has passed to the great silent majority. The funeral was largely attended by many friends and members of the orders to which she belonged. The family came from the east fifteen years ago, Mr. Campbell having been on the road as traveling salesman for the Ballou Basket Works for a number of years past, but had quit traveling and concluded to go into business here and enjoy his home hereafter, little expecting it would so soon be broken by the relentless hand of death. Much sympathy is extended Mr. Campbell and the family in their great loss.
