The Portland Observer, March 1915


A week’s illness from pneumonia and lagrippe, coupled with an attack of heart 
trouble, proved fatal, Sunday morning, to Charles C. Campbell, a resident of 
this vicinity for the last 55 years.  The summons was answered at the home of 
the step-son, Howard St. John, in Portland township, directly across the road 
from the farm upon which Mr. Campbell first settled after coming to this 
vicinity.

Deceased was born at Castile, N.Y., Nov. 9, 1836.  Thirty-eight years ago he 
married Jennie Wheeler, who passed before him Nov. 20, 1914.  The couple had 
no children.  Two brothers out of an original family of 11 survive.  They are 
William Campbell of Portland township, and Andrew, of Castile, N.Y.  A 
brother, Samuel, died last December.

Funeral services were conducted at the late residence Tuesday afternoon at 
2:00 by Rev. W. H. Skentelbury of the Congregational church, and the remains 
interred in Portland cemetery.
