Campbell, 53, of Okemos, died suddenly at his home Friday night of a heart attack. Mr. Campbell, a former Ionia resident, who was one of few Ionia high school athletes to win nine major athletic letters, was a drug company sales representative. He had been a resident of East Lansing and Okemos 25 years. Afflicted with a heart ailment six years ago, he had been under treatment for several years. The son of the late Harry Campbell, Ionia druggist and drug store owner, he attended Ionia high school and was graduated in 1935. He starred in football, being an end, basketball and track. He was a member of the alumni executive board at Ferris State college. At Okemos he had been active in civic affairs being chairman of the Okemos Booster club, past president of the Lansing Toastmasters club and had been active in Boy Scouts. He was a World War II navy veteran. Survivors include his wife, Jean; four sons, Bruce of Lansing, and Kirk, Charles, Jr., and Robert of Okemos; two brothers, Robert Campbell, Lansing Sexton coach, and Donald, Holly weekly newspaper publisher; a sister, Mrs. Jean Eckert of Ionia, and his mother, Mrs. Ethel Campbell of Harrison. Funeral services are to be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Gorsline-Runciman funeral home at 1730 East Grand River, East Lansing. Burial will be at Harrison cemetery.
