B. Canfield Aged Resident Dies After Being Confined to His Home for Several Years. Had Wonderful Strength Rallied from what Seemed To Be a Fatal Illness Several Years Ago – Funeral Today. The death of William B. Canfield late Saturday night came as a shock to his friends. While he had been an invalid for several years his death was unexpected. For a few weeks he had been failing but even that day had been able to visit with friends. Mr. Canfield was born in New York state April 24, 1828 and died Feb. 12, 1910 at the age of eighty-two years. He married Lydia Miller and they came to Michigan soon after, settling in Lyons township. Eight children were born to them of whom only three survive, William of Grand Rapids; George H. of West Water, Utah and Leon of Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Canfield moved to Portland about thirty years ago. For several years he worked for Dell Wade but later his health failed and he was only able to do light work. His wife was an invalid for years and he cared for her until her death four years ago. Since then he has lived in his little home purchased by his sons who have given him the best of care. The funeral services will be held today at his late residence Rev. Taylor officiating. Both Mr. and Mrs. Canfield had long been members of the Congregational church. The two sons, Will and Leon, are here for the funeral.
