H. Canfield. Today we are called upon to chronicle the demise of Mr. Canfield, which took place at the home of his daughter, Mrs. P.R.L. Carl at Manistee Tuesday. For some time he had been in poor health, and a few weeks ago went to Manistee hoping to benefit his physical condition. Mr. Canfield was born in Niagara county, New York, in 1835, came to Ionia county, when a child, where in 1860 he was married. Three children were born there, A.R. Canfield of Clare, Mrs. Carl and Miss Pearl Canfield of Manistee. In 1883 the family moved to Harrison, where Mr. and Mrs. Canfield have resided since except for a short time at Farwell. Mr. Canfield was highly esteemed by all who knew him, was deeply interested in public questions, and was for a time judge of probate of Clare county. – Clare Sentinel, Oct. 28. Deceased was a resident of this township some thirty years ago and was a brother of the late Wilbur Canfield.
