Canfield, 60, long time Tucson, Arizona resident and homesteader, died May 20 at his home in the Tucson mountains after a long illness. He was born in Ionia and attended school here. He also attended the University of Pittsburgh. In World War I he served overseas with the 32nd Red Arrow division and on the Mexican border in 1916. He graduated from Ionia high school with the class of 1916. Mr. Canfield was one of the first residents of the Tucson Mountain area and began homesteading in 1928, three years after his arrival there. He was active in the affairs of the Tucson Mountain Association and was instrumental in establishing the Arizona-Sonora Desert museum. He was a member of the Tucson Mountains Park committee and was honored by being named an honorary pioneer of the association. A member of the Baptist church, he was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a past commander of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion. He is survived by his wife Rachel; three sons, Joseph, Richard and Robert, all of Tucson; three sisters, Susan and Antoinette of Tucson and Mrs. J.W. Hacker of Pittsburgh, Ps.
