Cannon Dead Prominent Citizen Called Suddenly After Brief Illness. Thomas Cannon died today at his home on south Bridge street at about 10:30 o’clock. The news of his sudden and unexpected death came as a severe shock to his family and many friends. He was taken sick Saturday night after his return home from work in the factory and was about to get ready to attend the Masonic lodge, when he was taken with a severe chill followed by high fever during the night, and his condition became very serious. Dr. Pinkham was called and although he rallied under his treatment for a time, he gradually grew worse until the brittle thread of life was broken. The deceased was 60 years old and had been an honored and respected citizen here for about 20 years. He was a member of the Masonic lodge and Order of the Eastern Star. Arrangements for the funeral will not be made until word can be received from his daughter, Mrs. Belle Perrine, who resides in Arizona. He leaves a devoted wife and her daughter, Mrs. Geo. Widdicomb, of Grand Rapids. ------------ The funeral services of Mr. Thomas Cannon, (of whose death notice was given in our last issue) were held from his late residence on Saturday afternoon, under the auspices of the Masonic fraternity, of which body he was an honored member. Rev. A. Secord conducted the first part of the services, with prayer, the reading of selections from the scriptures and comforting remarks touching upon the great mystery of life. Mrs. J.E. Ferguson sang two selections, then followed the impressive Masonic burial service under the direction of Dr. J.H. Armstrong and concluded at the cemetery under the direction of Mr. H.J. Leonard. The floral offerings were many and beautiful from the different societies and friends, speaking of the high esteem in which Mr. Cannon was held. There were present at the funeral services from out of town, three brothers of Mr. Cannon and their families from near Langston and one sister from Easton, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Widdicomb of Grand Rapids. Mr. Cannon’s only daughter, Mrs. W.G. Perrine of Bisbee, Arizona, was not able to reach here until on Wednesday of this week.
