Mr. Paul R. Cantu, 21, of Easton Township passed away unexpectantly on June 
23, 2001.  He was born the son of Angel and Rosa (Cantu) Ayala on May 10, 1980 
in Ionia.

Paul had worked at the Corner Landing and Papa’s restaurants in Ionia and was 
currently employed at the Cantu Construction Company in Ionia.  He was a 
member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ionia.  He enjoyed the 
outdoors and spending time with his nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his mother, Rosa Cantu of Ionia; sister, Victoria (Moses) 
Velasco of Ionia; brother, Marcus (Latasha) Cantu of Ionia; his grandfather, 
Erasmo Cantu of Ionia, many aunts and uncles; seven nieces and nephews; many 
cousins; and his girlfriend, Melissa Perez of Saranac.

Paul was preceded in death by his father Angel Ayala in 2000; his grandmother, 
Minerva Cantu in 1999; his uncle, Mick Stanton in 2000; and his aunt, 
Esperanza (Hope) Stanton in 1988.

Mass of the Christian burial will be offered from SS. Peter and Paul Catholic 
Church in Ionia at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Fr. Melvin Fox as presider.  The 
organist will be Mrs. Mary Cusack.  Interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Visiting hours will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday 
with Rosary services at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Rich Street Chapel of 
Cook Funeral Home in Ionia.  Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers can be 
made to the wishes of the Cantu family in care of Rosa Cantu.  Envelopes will 
be available at the funeral home or the church.
