Kelley of this village, who passed away Tuesday noon at the home of a brother-in-law at Coopersville, where he had been making his home. Michael Canty was born in the state of New York in 1842, and when the Civil War broke out joined regiment from there, with whom he served for the duration of the war. In 1866 he came to Michigan and for many years made his home with his daughter in Lyons. During the past year he has been in poor health, his last visit to Lyons being a month ago. He was well liked wherever known, and his dry humor gained him quite a reputation and many friends. He was Commander of the M.W. Dresser Post G.A.R. in Lyons for the past two years. He is survived by a son and three daughters: Charles Canty of Jackson; Mrs. Philip Kraft of Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Claude Barkman of Lake City; and Mrs. H.D. Kelley of this village. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at ten o’clock from the home where he died in Coopersville, and burial will be made in the cemetery there.
