Carey Sr., 80, of 1615 Tupper Lake Street, Lake Odessa, died Thursday morning in Pennock Hospital, Hastings. Born Nov. 27, 1904 in Eaton County, he was the son of George and Lillian Holton Carey. He was married to Ethel Rogers Sept. 28, 1923, in Eaton County. He was employed by E.W. Bliss Manufacturing in Hastings for 30 years, retiring in 1969. He was a member of the United Brethren Church of Woodbury and of the Lake Odessa Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Carl (June) Sowles of Charlotte and Mrs. Francis (Jeanette) Simon of Lake Odessa; two sons, Morris C. Jr. of Portland and Roger D. of Woodland; nine grandchildren; three step- grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Cecil Carey of Harrison; and a sister, Elaine Ruphert of Napoleon. Three sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. from the Koops Funeral Chapel, Lake Odessa, with the Rev. Duane Walters officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Memorial Park. A memorial for the Ionia County Unit of the American Cancer Society has been established.
