VETERAN Death Claims John Carey; Was Staunch Supporter Of Republicans John Carey, last of the Civil War veterans of Boston township, died at his home Tuesday evening at the age of 88. Until recently he had been able to be about the house but was in failing health. A short time ago he was taken ill with influenza, which developed into pneumonia, resulting in his death. Mr. Carey was a unique character, not alone in his record of having outlived all other veterans in his township but also because of his political recognition. He was one of the staunchest Republicans in that section of the country and was always active in party matters until failing health forced him to stay at home. He is survived by his son Samuel Carey and by two grandsons, all residents of the township. Funeral services will e held from the home Friday at 2 p.m. a minister from Lowell officiating. Burial will be in South Boston cemetery.
