Clarence S. Carlton, 81, of Lake Odessa, formerly of Grand Rapids, died Friday
at Ionia County Memorial Hospital.  Born Aug. 10, 1905, in Grand Rapids, he was
the son of Clarence and Helena Koomain Carlton.  He attended Grand Rapids
schools and was married to Henrietta Hammick.  She preceded him in death in
1957.  On May 22, 1976, he was married to Marty Waldeck in Grand Rapids; she
survives.  He was employed by the City of Grand Rapids as a maintenance worker.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three sons, Donald and Roger Carlton of
Grand Rapids, and Donald Carlton of Spartanburg, S.C.; two stepsons, Dave LaNew
of Lake Odessa and Dana LaNew of Stafford, Va.; 10 grandchildren; seven step
grandchildren, one great grandchild and one step great grandchild; one brother,
Harold of Grand Rapids; and a sister of Marie Miller of Bradenton, Fla.; a
sister-in-law, Ida Carlton, of Wyoming.  Two brothers and a sister preceded him
in death.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 3 p.m. from the Koops Funeral Chapel, Lake
Odessa, with the Rev. George Speas officiating.  Cremation followed services.
