Ionia Sentinel Standard


Katherine Jean Carmey, 2, of Ionia went to be with her Lord April 19, 2011, 
after a courageous battle with cancer. Kathie passes away at home surrounded by 
her family.

She is survived by her mother, Shirley Clark; four loving children, Angie 
(Steve) Insley of Belding, David (Bridget) Kuitert of Belding, Ashlie Carmey of 
Ionia and Emily Carmey of Ionia; previous husband of  20 years, close personal 
friend and father of Ashlie and Emily, Eric Carmey of Ionia. Also surviving are 
three siblings, Susan (Ronald) Cooper of Fenwick, Debra Clark of Ionia and 
Joseph Clark of Ionia; nieces and nephews Jerry (Mary) Nummer of Belding, Audra 
Fleming of Ionia, Tara Cooper of Greenville and Casey Clark of West Palm Beach, 
Fla.; grandchildren Logan and Jordan Insley of Belding and Elijah and Seth 
Kuitert of Belding; and numerous grand nieces and nephews.

Kathie was preceded in death by her father, Harold (Hap) E. Clark, nephew 
Joseph W.H. Clark, niece Erica Nummer and grandparents James (Pearl) Selke and 
Claude (Bessie) Clark.

She dedicated her life working as a public servant in the Medical Field, first 
at Life EMS in Ionia as an EMT, Sparrow-Ionia Hospital and most recently at 
Capital Cardiology in Lansing.

More than anything she enjoyed spending time with her family, and had a passion 
for horses and the outdoors.

Cremation has taken place and there will be a Memorial Service for Kathie at 11 
a.m. Thursday, April 21 at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia with Pastor Kenneth 
Harger officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Funeral 
Home. 

Anyone wishing may make memorial contributions to Ionia County 4-H Educational 
House Development Committee in memory of Katherine Jean Carmey.
