Carpenter, 96, of Orleans, died Saturday, Oct 2, 2004, at Ganton Countryside Care Center, Jackson. He was born Sept. 26, 1908, in Bedford, the son of Frank W. and Glencora Whitney Carpenter. He married Marguerite Belyou on May 28, 1932, in Fenwick. Mr. Carpenter moved to Jackson in 1942 and was the general manager of Sides Manufacturing Co. He later became an owner and manager of his own manufacturer’s representative company. He was the first president of the Civitan Club in Jackson. Mr. Carpenter was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved to hunt game birds and deer into his 90s. He learned to fly in his 40s and flew his own plane for many years. He retired to his cabin at Long Lake in the late 1970s. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Marguerite “Peg” Carpenter; and nine brothers and sisters. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Robert “Jim” and Barbara Carpenter of Jackson; daughter, Sue Koebbe of Manchester; six grandchildren, James and Beth Carpenter of Howell, Joann Moon of Lakewood, Colo., Cathy and Mike Burke of Jackson, Christy and Marcos Landin of Austin, Texas, Mari Koebbe of Pinckney, Sally and Don Bowman of Hartland; great-grandchildren, Stephi Moon, Kevin Moon, Eric Burke, Joshua Bowman, Marcie Landin, Andre Burke, Gary Burke, Krista Burke; one great-great-grandson; and special friend, Abby Hensley of Huntington, W.V. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Simpson Family Funeral Home, Sheridan, with the Rev. Kenneth Harger, of Shiloh Community Church, officiating. Interment is in Evergreen Cemetery, Sheridan. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial considerations to Shiloh Community Church, 8197 Heth Road, Orleans, Mich. 48865.
