July 11, 1940 CLAUDE B. CARPENTER DIED THURS. MORNING Underwent Operation at Pennock Hospital. Leaves Five Daughters and Two Sons. Funeral Saturday Claude B.Carpenter was born in Woodland township where he was married to Miss Laura Huyck in 1884. The couple moved to Nebraska but returned to Lake Odessa in 1897. He and his brother, George established a hardware and farm implement business and he retained the implement business after the hardware was sold to Cheetham & Ringler. Mr and Mrs Carpenter were identified with t e life and improvements of the village always taking an active part. They and their children were identified with the Methodist church as well as in all civic improvements. He had served on the village council, school board, and commercial club. He retired in 1930. He was 75 years of age at the time of his death. The funeral was held Saturday at 1 o'clock from the Wortley & Baine Funeral Home, the Rev. C.E. Thies, his pastor of Central Methodist church, officiating. Burial was in the family lot in Lakeside cemetery.
