October 10, 1907 MRS. CARPENTER PASSES AWAY Had Been in Failing Health for Many Months. Mrs.H.C.Carpenter passed away at her home int his village last Monday noon after a continued illness of several months, during which time she has been a patient sufferer, and extremely courageous, although she and her family were aware that death was inevitable. Ellen S.Cooper was born in Seneca county N.Y. in 1843 and moved with her parents, Israel H.and Elizabeth, to Michigan in 1851, being among the pioneers of Woodland. There were twelve children in her father's family, of whom five are living; A.L.Cooper Grand Rapids, Mrs.J.H. Benham, of Iowa, Mrs.W.P.Holly, of Lake Odessa, A.L.Cooper of Woodland and mrs.A.C. Rowlader, o Mt.Pleasant, Mich. Ellen was married to Dr.H.C. Carpenter int he years 1864 and lived in Sebewa and Woodland until six years ago when they came to Lake Odessa where they have since resided. Five children were born to them, one dying in infancy. Her husband, two sons Claude B and George H. of Lake Odessa and two daughters,Mrs.Edwin Davis fo Howard city and Mrs.Chas.Reiser, of Cincinnati, survive her. She was converted in her girlhood and had been an earnest worker in all branches of Christian work since that time. Although greatly handicapped in recent years by the disease to which she finally yielded on Monday last.She found her chief joy in promoting Christian enterprises and building up the Kingdom of Christ in many ways. Faithful and true as wife devoted to her home and children, loved as friend and neighbor, "She rests from her labor and her works do follow here," The funeral was held from the residence Wednesday forenoon at 10 o'clock, Rev Luther Officiating.Interment in Lakeside Cemetery.
