The Ionia County News, Thursday, July 8, 1943
Eston Carpenter, 54, world War I Veteran, and former Portland resident, died 
at his home in Detroit Saturday after a long illness.  Funeral service will be 
from the Banfield Funeral Home in Portland Thursday afternoon.  

Surviving are his widow, in Detroit, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. Carpenter, 
Portland, a sister in Lansing and a brother, Robert Carpenter, South Ionia.
