Carpenter, 78, died Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at his home at 834 Belding Street, Belding, after a brief illness. He was born April 28, 1874, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin F. Carpenter of Ronald township. He moved with his family to Croton township, Newaygo county, as a child. On December 22, 1908 he was married to Miss Ida L. Carpenter at Palo. He operated farms in Orleans and Ionia townships. In 1946 he sold his farm and moved to Lowell where he lived for three years. Since that time he has lived in Belding. A sportsman, Carpenter had spent much of the time since his retirement at his cabin on the Muskegon river. He was a member of Modern Woodmen. Carpenter is survived by his wife, one son, Donald of Muir, a granddaughter, and one sister, Mrs. Ella Squires of Muskegon. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday from the Stone-Kauffman funeral home with the Rev. Lewis Herrick of Palo officiating. Burial will be in Palo cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 Thursday evening.
