Well Known Keene Farmer Stricken After Thanksgiving Dinner. James Gilbert Carr was born September 7, 1852 in Keene township and spent practically his entire life in this vicinity. On February 22, 1881 he was united in marriage to Miss Dorothy Monks. He departed this life on Thursday, November 25, 1920, at the age of 68 years, 2 months, and 18 days. His untimely death came as a thunderbolt from a clear sky, and was a great shock to his relatives and friends who had gathered at his home to enjoy his hospitality on this Thanksgiving occasion. After partaking of a bountiful dinner, all retired to their easy chairs with hearts full of joy and peace, when like a flash came the unwelcome call. Friends rushed to his assistance, all to no avail. Aside from his wife for whom he lived and labored with an unusual devotion, his friends have suffered a most painful loss. He leaves to mourn, his wife, one brother, Allie Carr, of Keene, one sister, Mrs. Frank Cutler, of Keene, and one niece, Mrs. George Estelle, of Tennessee, and many friends. He joined the Saranac Odd Fellow lodge on December 8, 1900, and has been an active member of that organization ever since. The lodge attended in a body and conducted the services at the cemetery. The funeral services were held from the home Monday and he was laid to rest in the Pinkney cemetery, Rev. C.O. Hayward officiating. – Saranac Advertiser. Strong, Dr. Bessie Strong, Mr. and Mrs. J.G. Crawford, of Ionia, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Spencer, of Belding, Mrs. T. Bates and Mrs. J. MacLearn, of Edmore, Mr. and Mrs. Ford Carr, of Caledonia, and Mr. Warren Carr, of Lansing.
