F. Carr, for many years one of the most prominent and widely known residents of this city, has departed this life. The exact time of her death is not given, all that is known being conveyed in the following dispatch: Minneapolis, May 21. To Mr. C. A. Preston: Meet me in Ionia Monday morning, with Mrs. Carr’s remains. See Allured. Immediate interment. W. H. Grimshaw Mr. Grimshaw is the son-in-law of deceased, with whom she had made her home for several years. The dispatch indicates that there will be no services here, except such as may be thought proper at the grave. Mr. Carr is buried at Highland Park, where the family have a nice lot. Subsequent Publication: Monday, May 23, 1898 The remains of Mrs. Jane A. Carr arrived here at 11:17 this morning, accompanied by her son-in-law, Mr. Grimshaw. They were met at the depot by a large number of the friends of deceased (mostly of the older residents), and many carriages followed the dead friend to Highland Park, the place of interment. A brief service was conducted at the grave by Rev. G. K. Berry. The bearers were F. W. Stevenson, O. S. Tower, Oscar Dean and E. H. King. The maiden name of deceased was Jane A. Howe. She was married to A. F. Carr in 1836, at her home at Fairport, N.Y. Their only child, Marion, was born in 1839, and in 1843 the family came to Ionia. Mr. Carr engaged in mercantile pursuits here until 1865, when he turned his attention to other interests— principally lumbering and banking. He was at one time president of the First Nation bank, and was for 11 years its cashier. Mrs. Carr survived her husband some 15 years, of late years she has resided with her daughter, at St. Paul, Min. She was a most kindly and estimable woman, and during all the years of her residence in Ionia had the respect of all for her admitted stable qualities.
