Lowell Ledger – Thursday, 6 October 1898
Julia M. Gates, daughter of N. B. and Catherine M. Gates, was born in 
Jefferson county, N. Y., Oct. 26, 1835.  She married Washington Carr, Feb. 28, 
1856 and in 1860 they removed to Keene township in this state where they lived 
for 12 years.  They then moved to Lowell which has since been their home.  For 
the past two years Mrs. Carr has been in ill health, although not until the 
last six months, did her condition become so serious as to cause alarm.  
During that time in spite of all that medical skill and tender hands could do 
for her, she continued to fail, until on Friday morning last her suffering 
ceased and the spirit took its flight to “that bourne from whence no traveler 
returns.”
An aged mother, the husband, daughter Kittie and son Eugene survive to mourn 
the loss of their best earthly friend.  Funeral services were held at the 
residence at 10 o’clock Monday, conducted by Rev. H. Marshall , and the 
remains were interred in the Marble cemetery in Keene
