(Case) Carroll, 91, of Portland passed away on September 10, 2007 in Ionia, MI. She was born in Middlebranch Township of Osceola County on June 27, 1916 the daughter of Lewis and Catherine Case. She graduated from Marion High School in 1933 and married Charles Carroll on July 13, 1947. Vera worked in several restaurants in Michigan and owned a restaurant in Kalkaska. She and her husband also owned the Hotel Bar in Portland. Vera served in the U.S. Marie Corps during World War II and was a very active member of the Portland Ladies Auxiliary #4090 as long as she was able. She enjoyed the activities at the Portland Senior Citizens Center, especially Bingo and Euchre. Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; parents; 5 brothers, Duane, Duey, Clyde, Raymond and Edison Case; and 2 sisters, Leah Eldred and Florena Brown. She is survived by her step-son, Charles (Irene) Carroll of Muskegon; 3 sisters-in-law, Joann, Betty and Connie; brother-in-law, Robert; and 12 nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 14, 2007 at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland; with Pastor Gregory R. Wolfe officiating. Military graveside services were provided by the Portland V.F.W. Post #4090. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Portland V.F.W. #4090 Ladies Auxiliary, or the Portland Senior Center in Vera's name.
