Born in Holmes, Fla., Sept. 16, 1916, he was the son of John and Lilla Wallace Carroll. He was married to Cecil Spicer in Florida June 5, 1937. They moved to Michigan in 1957 and he was employed by the City of Belding, Stahlin Brothers of Belding, and for 10 years, at Greenville Machine Co. before retiring. He was ordained a minister at Missionary Baptist Church in Alabama in 1948. He was a member and a former pastor of the Church of the Living Jesus in Harvard, Mich. Surviving are his wife, Cecil; two sons, Sherman of Sumner, Mich., and J. W. of Vermontville; two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Sybil) Telfor of Gowen and Mrs. Stephen (Sue) Watt of Ionia; 22 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; one brother, Leonard, of Brewton, Ala.; and one sister, Mrs. Harold (Mildred) Rhodes of Houston, Texas. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the Leddick Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gerald Brainard of Church of the Living Jesus of Harvard officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Belding. The family will be at the funeral home Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial for the American Lung Association has been established in care of the funeral home.
