Sherman Wayne Carroll, 58, of Sumner, died Sunday, February 1, 2004 in the 
privacy of his home.  Sherman was born in Brewton, Alabama on January 1, 1946, 
to Buster and Cecil Spicer Carroll.

He married Janice E. Hancock Wymer on March 1, 1983.  He served in the U.S. 
Army from December 8, 1965 to November 9, 1967.  He worked at General Tire in 
Ionia from 1973 to 1995.  

He was preceded in death by his father, Buster Carroll; and sister, Sybil 
Telfor.  He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Janice; mother, Cecil Carroll 
of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughters, Sandie and Patrick Gelbuda of Grand Rapids, 
Carri Funk of Sparta; sons, Steve and Melody Lumbert of Sumner, Mike Lumbert of 
Cedar Springs; stepchildren, Lynn and Ron Hunt, Rick and Renee Wymer, Tammie 
and Todd Holton, Larry Wymer, all from Sumner, Diane and Michael Brown of 
Hubbardston, Bruce and Ronda Wymer of Riverdale, Dorene and Roger Rockafellow 
of Alma; 27 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brother, JW and Cathy 
Carroll of Charlotte, and sister, Sue and Lee Wolf of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lux and Schnepp Funeral Home, 
Riverdale, with Rev. Ron Helzerman of Lighthouse Baptist Church officiating.  
Interment is in Sumner Cemetery.  Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 
p.m. today at the funeral home.
