Carten, 34, died Thursday morning at Howell sanatorium after a serious illness of five months. His home was Ionia, Star route. He was born in Illinois June 14, 1908 the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Carten. He moved to Michigan with his parents about 26 years ago. Mr. Carten was a member of the SS Peter and Paul church and was graduated from the SS Peter and Paul academy of Ionia. He has been employed in the Pere Marquette shops in Ionia for seven years and for the past eight years at Saginaw. He is survived by his wife Bessie; four sons, Kenneth, Harold, Richard and Robert; three brothers, Frank of Ionia; Pvt. Harry Carten stationed in Texas, and Charles of Detroit; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Cavanaugh of Carson City; several aunts and uncles. Prayer services will be held Saturday morning at 8:30 o’clock from the Myers funeral home and services will be held at 9:00 o’clock at the SS Peter and Paul church. Rev. Fr. John S. Fons will officiate and burial will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
