Carter, 75, died about noon Feb. 13 at the Ionia County Memorial Hospital after being a patient there for 10 days. He was born May 1, 1878 at Nanthwan, N.J., the son of Theodore and Sarah Carter. He came to Durand, Michigan, at the age of 11 months, with his parents. They resided there until 1902 except for a short time spent in South Bend, Ind., before coming to Muir. On Sept. 20, 1903 he was married to Emily Johnson of rural route Ionia and they resided in Muir until the time of his death. Mr. Carter had been a retired Grant Trunk railway employee since May 1, 1943. He lacked only three months of having served 47 years with the railroad. He has been active up until a year ago. Surviving besides his wife Emily are a brother Thomas of Grand Rapids who is also a retired railroad employee, and a sister Mrs. Alberta Johnson of Ionia; several nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and the Loyal Order of the Moose. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Myers funeral home. The Rev. Court O. Adams will officiate. Interment will be in the Muir cemetery.
