He died there Tuesday morning. The body was brought here Wednesday by Charles Carter. Mr. Carter's death was unexpected, being preceded by an illness of only a few hours." LAKE ODESSA WAVE-TIMES, MI, 12-11-1914, front page: "Zeno W. Carter, whose death was mentioned last week: Zeno William Carter was born in Savannah, Wayne County, New York, September 25, 1846, and died November 30, 1914, being 68 years, 2 months and 5 days old. With his parents he moved to Lowell, Michigan, in 1855 where he grew to manhood. In 1870, he married Adelia M. Norcutt who, with 5 children and 9 grandchildren, 2 sisters and 1 brother, survive him. In 1878, he moved with his family to the farm in Odessa township which has been their home to the present time. In early manhood, he was converted and united with the Baptist Church. He loved the Grange which was his last work, but not less than the Farmer's Club with whom he had long worked enthusiastically. He was an honorary member of the State organization. Though his mind had been somewhat clouded during the later years, he left us many memories of the nobility of his soul and his children will always reverently say "I learned this or that from father". Friends from away attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Carter, Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Post, and S. J. Carter of Lowell, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Norcutt, Mr. and Mrs. William E. Grove and Mr. and Mrs. Zeno Post of Grand Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Orson Sheldon of Woodland, Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Graham and daughter of Gary, Indiana, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Knee and daughter, Evelyn, of Ionia and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brock of Keene. The funeral was held at home Thursday forenoon. Rev. Thomas Laity preached from Job 30:23 and Mrs. Thomas Johnson and Mrs. A. J. Dann sang. Mr. Carter was a man of wide acquaintances and influence, strong in his views being a student all his life, never content unless striving to know and analyze the problems of the age in which we lived. He was practical in his application of ideas and a wise counselor. Such men are not only a great loss to their family but to a community as large as their acquaintance extends. CARD OF THANKS: We treasure with warmest remembrance the sympathy and kindness shown us in this hour of bereavement. Nothing that thought could devise or love accomplish has been left undone. We thank you. Mrs. Z. W. Carter, Miss Grace Carter, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Carter, Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Graham, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Carter, Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Carter." IONIA SENTINEL, MI, December 10, 1914: "East Odessa: The funeral for Zeno Carter was held at his old home last Friday; he died December 1st at Traverse City State Hospital."
