BLANCHE CARTER EAST LANSING - Mrs. Blanche Carter, 97, of 2700 Burcham Dr., East Lansing died on May 24 at her daughters home in East Lansing. She was born November, 28, 1884 in Evanston, Ill. She attended Albion and Hope colleges and studied at the Silver Burdett Music Conservatory in Chicago. She taught music in public schools until her marriage in 1910 to Benjamin Carter, of Lake Odessa. He preceded her in death in December of 1980. She was a member of the First Baptist church in Ionia; the Ladeside grange and a passed member of the Capitol Grange in East Lansing. She was instrumental in organizating the first PTA groups in Ionia and the surrounding counties. She is survived by four daughters: Mrs. Martin Louise Sacha, of East Lansing; Mrs. Richard Florence Drullinger, of Haslett; Mrs. William Alice Crissman, of Burnsville, Minn.; and Mrs. Lawrence Agnes Lipsett, of Webster, N.Y.; one son: Lt. Col. Olin B. Carter, of Reno, Nev.; 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; one sister; Mrs. Howard Lawrence, of Grand Rapids. Funeral services were held on Thursday at 1 p.m. from the Picken-Koops funeral home in Lake Odessa, the Rev. James Hulett officiating. Burial was at the Lakeside cemetery.
