Jay Carter, age 84, a life resident of this area, passed away Saturday, July 7, at the Maple Grove home in Grand Rapids, after suffering a stroke, only ten days before. Mr. Carter was the son of Theodore and Francis Carter, early pioneer residents of Lowell. He was born September 24, 1871, in Vergennes township. Services were held Tuesday at the Roth Chapel, Rev. Elton Mills officiating; interment in South Boston cemetery. Mr. Carter was a member of the Lowell Baptist Church. He made his home in Lowell for many years and was employed for some time at the old cutter factory. In 1914 he moved his family south of town, on Oberly Drive, where he resided until ill health forced him to move to the Grand Rapids home. Surviving are a son, Myron of Highland Park; a daughter, Mrs. Delbert Kropf of 4 mile road; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Vine Hunter of Lowell and Mrs. Lillian Camron of Pontiac; and a brother, Ernest, of Palo.
