Ionia Sentinel Standard, 25 Mar 1966

A former Ionia resident, Mrs. Libby Cowan Cartland, 89, died Thursday afternoon
at Clark Memorial home in Grand Rapids where she had resided since 1952.  Mrs.
Cartland was born in Ionia county, May 10, 1876, the daughter of Robert and
Charlotte McKendry and was married in Ionia to Elmer Cowan, October 30, 1895. 
Mr. Cowan, who died June 6, 1946, was associated for many years with the Hub
shoe store on Main street.  March 5, 1958 she was married to the Rev. Albert T.
Cartland in Grand Rapids, who survives.

Mrs. Cartland was a member of Ionia First Methodist church where she taught
Sunday school for several years and member of Janetta Howard circle of the
church.  She also held life membership in Queen Esther chapter, Order of Eastern
Star, was past matron and held other offices for 17 years; member of Stevens
Thompson Mason chapter Daughters of American Revolution of Ionia and of the
Garden and Penguin clubs at the Clark home.

Surviving besides her husband are one step-daughter, four step-sons, and several
nieces and nephews.

The body is at Creston Mortuary on Plainfield, Grand Rapids, and service will be
Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Clark Memorial home.  At 1:30 p.m. services will be
conducted at First Methodist church and interment will be at Highland Park
cemetery.
