One of the pioneers of the community passed away Tuesday morning in the person of John Cartridge, Sr., who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Allen Hill, at Holly, at the age of 83 years. Death was caused by a stroke of paralysis which came on to Mr. Cartridge about a week before his death. He had been visiting at the home of Mrs. Hill for the past 6 weeks. Mr. Cartridge was born in England and came to this country with his parents at the age of 8 years. He had resided in this section of the state and for the greater part of this long time in the immediate vicinity for practically 75 years. The body was brought to the home of a daughter, Mrs. James Wright, of the Greene school district where it will remain until the time of the funeral Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Funeral services will be held at the Fitzjohn funeral home and burial will be in the old Belding cemetery. Surviving are the widow, 2 daughters, Mrs. Allen Hill, of Holly, and Mrs. James Wright, of near this city; also 2 sons, John and Lou Cartridge of this community.
