"Doug" Cary, 67, of Lowell formerly of Ionia, passed away Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017 at Laurels of Kent in Lowell. Doug was born on Sept. 28, 1949 in Ionia, the son of Marion and Fannie (Bailey) Cary. He graduated from Saranac High School with the Class of 1967 and in earlier years was a member of the Saranac Jaycees. He liked to hunt, ride motorcycle, go snowmobiling and hang gliding. While he had worked recently in management, for several years he was a DJ at WION/WYON based out of Ionia and at a radio station in Shelby/Hart. While he was a DJ in Shelby/Hart, he went by the DJ name of Tom Marshall. Doug is loved and survived by his children, Stacy (Chris) Venneman of Belding, Heidi (Jeff) Smart of Saranac, Brian (Jennifer) Cary of Belding, Stacey Lyn Fuentes (Phil) of Bakersfield, CA and Shannon (Perry) Trial of Corpus Christi, TX; 15 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and one on the way; step-father, Loren Blocher of Lowell; siblings, Ron (Sue) Cary of Eau Claire, Kathy (Yassine) Nhaddou of Lowell; three sisters-in-law, Kae (Ted) Beattie, Rae (Mike) Lampen and Lyn Sturrus; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Doug was preceded by his wife Valerie, parents and two sisters, Patricia and Marylou. The family has chosen to remember Doug privately and no public visitation or funeral service will take place. Memorials may be given to the Salvation Army - Substance Abuse Program. Envelopes will be available at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding where funeral care had been entrusted.
